Principal's Message

Greetings Park West and Pomona Alternative family,

Welcome back!  My name is Luis Rodriguez and I am the proud Principal of Park West High School and Pomona Alternative School.  It is my pleasure to serve you.  As I enter my third year as Principal, it is my goal to support, inspire, and connect students with mentorship, and college/career opportunities. This year our staff is committed to our theme, “Be the One” who will make a difference in our students’ life.

Our staff is dedicated in helping your student achieve their high school graduation and post-secondary goals.  In our classrooms, our teachers provide a more personal learning environment.   This year our Advisory class will focus on teaching them life skills and connecting students with an adult that will serve as their mentor.  We are adding two more exciting Career Technical Education (CTE) classes.  Students will be able to learn Hospitality, Construction, and Graphic Depo from teachers within the field who will expose students to real world careers.

Using the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework, we are focusing on establishing expectations, rewarding positive behavior, and providing interventions.  We will also continue to give students organizational tools that will help them maintain their school work in one place and will serve as a direct communication for parents.  By teaching students to become more organized, they will be able to access their academic material in one centralized location.  Our students will have the opportunity to participate in college visits, field trips, celebration activities, and award ceremonies.  We will continue helping students by intentionally connecting them to advisors, mentors, peer services, counselors, and community partners.

This year we will resume our goals to intentionally provide a structured and nurturing environment in and out of the classroom.  Our focus is to increase attendance, engage students in learning, and for all students to graduate.  I am devoted to, “Be the One” that will empower our staff and students to achieve their full capabilities.  My mission is to motivate students through understanding and caring relationships.  Join us, in our pursuit to transform our community by guiding our future leaders.  I am looking forward to meeting you.
